Civilization name: Cocytus

Population:
Men – 10
Women – 13
Dogs – 1

City and names:
Capital - Tethys

Allies(if any):

Year: 5

Additional Info:

End of Year 1:
Castaways decided they liked their new land and began to create a series of small huts underneath the tree grove. Large branches, leaves, and mud were the primary components in this construction. Two children were also born, a boy and a girl.

Year 2:
One man took charge of daily activities around camp; so far he has not been challenged.
Another man, on patrol with the group’s only dog found a large flat area underneath ledge. There he found several small hunks of rock, after stepping on one he decided to call them “Ow,” the name did not stick as other members of the group decided to call them based on the sound they made when hitting the dirt, that being “thunk.”

It was determined that thunks made great tools for breaking things. Some sharper ones worked real well for cutting.

Using a sharp thunk the leader killed a very large brown bear. The village stripped it of its skin and meat finding uses for both. The furry skin became clothing and the meat kept them alive throughout the winter.

New Technology: Rocks or Thunks
New Food Source: Bear
New Clothing: Fur

Year 3:
Four more children were born this year. Three girls and a boy.

Another member of the group figured out that thunks could be attacked to sticks and swung better. Sharp thunks on sticks allowed for easier and more efficient cutting of trees. This allowed the group to chop more branches to improve their shelters.

New Technology: Thunk Sticks aka Axes and Hammers

Year 4:
The villager that invented Thunk Sticks used one to crack open the skull of the de facto leader. The leader died and his assassin took his place, possibly starting a line of such activities in the future.
The village expanded quite a bit in the last year, they stopped when they came upon a very hot and arid area. Also using Thunk Hammers they been breaking out larger chunks of thunk and using them for better structures by leaning them in different directions and supporting them with larger branches. These new shelters are stronger and better insulated against the cold, which they only survived by huddling together in the past. These winters have also led to a sort of group mentality about women amongst the men; they just seem to share their mates rather than being committed to anyone.

New Cultural Practice: Polygamy
New Technology: Stone Houses

Year 5:

Thanks to their polygamous practices over the last year nearly every woman in the tribe got pregnant and led to the largest increase in population. Six new children were born recently and led to three more girls and three more boys.

The older children have also been out playing and the boys have been catching multiple little furry rodents with bushy tails and have been bringing them back to camp. The leader has decided to use these as a food source and told the boys to keep catching them.

New Food Source: Squirrel

Civ: Wolf-Kin
Pop: 102; 54 Men; 48 Women
Claimed Lands: Burn Lands; Cracked Caverns; The Great Tower; WoodLands
Year: 51

The tower is finished, and the territory around it secured. Before Theron could begin the journey to the Tower, a work major approaches him and tells him of a small group of creatures heading to their territory. Theron gathers his strongest warrior males to go confront the group. When he meets them they utter these strange sounds to each other. The Kin understand none of it, and Theron questions them on why they are approaching the Kin territory. The other group appears not to understand, and they utter more of their speech. One of them badly speaks with Kin tongue, making absolutely no sense at all. Theron sighs and uses his claws to carve an image of his land in the dirt and then their party being near it. This they understand and they carve their own images into the ground, showing their land and a few other symbols that mean nothing to the Kin. Theron ponders this message for a few moments. He believes they want to negotiate something, but he is not sure. He becomes frustrated at these strange animals who are trying to talk with the Kin. Marcious, the Wolf-Kin to Theron's right, told Theron that he believed the creatures wanted to know who they were. Theron told Marcious to go with the strange party of creatures, now known as the Long-Ears, and attempt to communicate better with them. Theron then left, leaving Marcious to attempt to sort out his new found mess.

When Theron returned, he began his journey to the Tower. Once completed, the workers were sent to their homes with food for the coming years. This caused a massive population boom, with a total of 26 Kin pups being born within the year.

With the Tower completed, Theron had time to observe things less important to his tower, such as a new found, sparkling mineral that Theron was greatly interested in, and a less glamorous mineral that could be molded into new shapes. He grouped several of his smartest Kin to the deciphering of Nature's great mysteries, such as why Theron had an itch on his neck they would just not go away.

A near-by village of large, green animals were found. Theron sent a party to go and converse with them, as their language was similar to the Kin language. After little talk, the animals were deemed hostile, as they attacked after a few moments in Kin presence. Theron claimed the territory around their village and sent another party to warn them to either surrender, or die. History repeated itself and the animals attacked for a second time. Theron declared that the green animals were to be killed on sight, otherwise to leave them alone till another time.

The Kin have advanced their buildings to larger, more stable designs after a cave in of a hut killed a family of three.

Theron has sent a party of 4, consisting of 3 males and one female, to explore the western lands. They have been supplied with the latest weaponry, which consists of stone swords sharpened by flint, an improved club for bashing things, and a sling that was recently invented by a bored Kin playing a game. They begin their journey with high spirits.

Allies(if any):
Year: 54

We now have weak magical powers using the latest psionic development in our population.
Low powered telekinesis of elements and objects, as well as being able to convey feelings and thoughts.

Our manipulation of magics is seen as a gift from the elements, and all people follow that belief.

Military: 30 people, other than that no change.

Outside world:
We receive a visitor from the Wolf Kin called Marcious, and we try to converse by using a young telepath to exchange information with him, although it's really alien and strange for her. We learn a little bit of Wolf-kin culture and language. We accompany him on the way back with the young telepath to further get understanding. We also send a few merchants to barter with the locals, and swordsmen to train with the natives.

Civilization name: The Asgard
Population: 13; 6 Men; 7 Women; 3 babies
City and names: None Yet.
Allies: None
Year: 1.1

Additional Info: My people as created in the image of their creators. They are very similar to humans with a small difference, their size. They are averagely around 8 feet tall. The first day shows the introduction to my civilization. The next post will give a better understanding of which they are, where they came from, and what their beliefs are.

Birth:
Three women gave birth. At this age in development, the babies are not yet male or female. It will take some time until it is determined what gender they will be.

Understand heated Sticks:
The men begin again to travel downhill to find better nourishment. Again, the men visit the cave with the moving rock. They attempt to get more heated sticks, but were unsuccessful. They did not understand why this was happening. The men began to slam the sticks harder on the “moving Rock”. Moving rock seems to not be moving anymore and much cooler. They began to throw things, including rocks. One person begins to continually slam a rock against the newly formed rock. Eventually a spark from the rock hits the nearby dead leaves, and the heat returns. After seeing this new way to form the heat, the men go back to the structure for further testing. They finally understood the way to make the stick heat.

Making new homes:
The men and women begin to build new homes. The gather big sticks and rock to make small huts. One begins to build a house of large rock. This one is becoming a leader among these beings. In one day they have made a small town to house each being in a single house. They begin to make the sticks the use sharper to help with pushing through the other sticks. The leader builds a stick and rock together to help build his rock house. It looked similar to a simple hammer.

New Source of food:
One day, Thor and his followers found an animal lying motionless next to a tree. He noticed red water flowing from its stomach, which had one of the sticks through it. He then grabbed the stick and moved it from the unknown animal. It was still motionless. He moved closer to sniff the animal. Thor did the one thing he fully understood, he bit the animal. He was introduced to a new sensation. He urged the others to join him. They did and thought the same thing as Thor. He finally felt full, and decided to bring the remains to the camp. The women and men feasted that night on this new source of food

Communication and names:
At this time, communication between all of the beings begins. At this time in development, it was nothing more than pointing, grunting, and the occasional push and shove. While building his house, he hit his hand with this simple hammer and screamed. Others heard him yell out with a “Roar” but it was interpreted as Thor. From this moment, he was known as Thor. They decided to associate a sound with this new source of food. The called it, Chowneck. They also associated a sound with the red round ball, Crowneck. They also decided to associate many items with known sounds:
Stick: Creetik
Stick House: ManCreetick
Original Structure: RelAsgard

Economy:
At the beginning of the civilization, they only traded red balls for other needed objects. The red ball is the center of the civilization’s trade as of the moment.

Understanding of the world around them:
They previously believe they are gathers and are now newly hunters. They do not know of any outsiders. If outsiders are spotted, they might just bite out of their understanding of the world. They seem to bite everything to wonder about its purpose.

Civ: Wolf-Kin
Pop: 128; 65 Men; 63 Women
Claimed Lands: Burn Lands; Cracked Caverns; The Great Tower; WoodLands
Year: 60

All is going well with the Long-Ears. They have begun to trade with us, and we with them. Some of their warriors have come to learn out fighting techniques as well. Theron has decided that they are allies, and he has sent word of this to their leader. Theron is pleased with his new neighbors, and hopes that all shall be well in the coming years.

Theron has looked into several matters brought up by the people.

-The green animals, now known as Blorks by most Kin, are becoming a serious threat. Theron has dispatched a large force of warriors to silence this foe. They return successful, with very few casualties.

-The strange new metal is very useful. When cooled it is much stronger than the regular stone that most items are made from. Theron decided that this new metal will be used for their weapons and some buildings.

-The other new mineral is being hoarded under the Tower, as Theron believes it would be excellent to trade with.

-A villager brought up the fact that there is new, black, brittle land being formed near the mountain of fire. Theron traveled to the area and watched as the hot ooze created new land. He named this area the Brittle Pond.

-The Scouting party has sent word that they have found a large expanse of sand. They are calling it the Wasteland. There is no water in sight, but they are trying to find out how far it goes. Also, a child was born during their travels.

-A bored male improved upon the sling. It now can be pulled back and then shot, making it go farther and be more accurate.

-The Caverns are finished being dug out. Homes are being built in them now.

-Theron has started a military. As of now, %12 of the male population will be trained in the ways of battle, and master-meant of all weapons.

Create-A-Civ (To be, or not to be, that is the question . . .) - Page 5 Empty Map Update with *Side-Story*

Post   2011-01-23, 8:39 pm

New Map

Also, a new, different, side-story.

"They are that way!" Glento said as we rushed away. Several humans were hunting us, and we were trying to get away. There were five of us creepers and a pet pig in our little party, and humans were hunting us. Glento rushed ahead on his four stubby legs, trying to get over the next hill, when suddenly, and arrow shot from a tree and pierced his neck. He gurgled out a whimper, looked me in the eyes, and began to slowly move towards the human in the tree. The human shot him several more times, but he just would not give up. By the time he got to the tree, his body was covered in arrows and his own blood. He utter a single tsssss and then exploded, taking out the entire tree, and the human. I looked away from the sight, to scared to look at the mangled mess of human and creeper bodies. "Come on everyone," I said,"Lets get away from these monsters."

I don't know why the humans hunt us, and hate us. It angers me so much. They come into our world, our perfect, happy world, and then decide that they own it. Instantly it is gone, and our freedom is ruined. They mangle OUR land, with their disgusting structures and their massive mines, and then when they see us, the expect us to go away, or else they will kill us with their bows or swords. Whenever I see a human, all I can do is frown as I think about all my family that he has possibly murdered to create his massive pile of slime that he calls a home.

Our little party now only has our pet pig Jefbo, and four of us creepers. Myself, Gerome, Gleny, and Farbool. Glento had been my best friend. Now we must push on. We must survive. We must win.

-To be continued on each map update.

Create-A-Civ (To be, or not to be, that is the question . . .) - Page 5 Empty Re: Create-A-Civ (To be, or not to be, that is the question . . .)

Post  AdrianRedd 2011-01-23, 8:48 pm

So yeah, I don't have enough free time to keep up on this too well. I'd love to post more (because you're all doing way too well right now), but it's hard reading everything and posting often enough. This seems like a lot of fun, but this is the sort of thing that I would have to invest a LOT of time on if I want to do well, and I simply don't have that.

So here's the deal. I'd like to be able to skip ahead several more years at a time, simply because people are on things like year 50, and I'm still on year 12. It doesn't make sense to post year 18 and interact with someone who started later than I did. Strange. Also, when I go inactive it will be a repression of the Goblins as they move back into their tunnel networks.

So when I have time to post, I'll probably pop up, make a couple posts causing people trouble and then probably go inactive again as life dictates. If anything it will keep you guys on your toes because you won't know when, where, who or how I'll attack. I promise to keep things fair and enjoyable, and add that element of suspense to this game. You guys already know how much I'm dedicated to fun, so you know I won't do anything stupid or irresponsible. How does all that sound?

Civilization name: The Asgard
Population: 16; 8 Men; 8 Women
City and names: None Yet.
Allies: None
Year: 1.2
Additional Info:
My people as created in the image of their creators. They are very similar to humans with a small difference, their size. They are averagely around 8 feet tall. The first day shows the introduction to my civilization. The next post will give a better understanding of which they are, where they came from, and what their beliefs are. To fully understand my post, you will need to read all previous communication sections of my post.

Population:

The three babies decided on their genders through their trials with the other beings of the small town. Two decided to be men and one decided to be a woman.

Exploration:

Thor and his men explored the area on top of the mountain. On one side the could see blue ground as far as possible. On the other, there was a small blue snake, another there was a dry dead land, and the other seemed to be nothing but green.
Thor and his hunters now decide to go where no one else has been, off the mountain. They travel for many days, finding many Crowneck and Chowneck on the way. They make their way down to the endless water. There was no end to this massive blue water. This travel allowed them to see that there were four mountains total in the area. Their mountain had some smoke coming from the lower portion of it, near the glowing cave. Thor and his men traveled back to the town to share this new knowledge they have found to the entire village.

Weapons:

After learning about that a stick could stop the Chowneck from moving, they began to make sticks with pointy ends. At first they would break very easily, but after time they understood what sticks were strong enough and how to fully carve them to penetrate with great force. Thor decided to add his beloved stone to the end of the newly carved sticks. It allowed for better piercing. They began to build all sticks with this stone.

Cooking:

On Thor’s travels, they made many camps on the mountain. One day after hunting and slaying a Chowneck, Thor accidently dropped a piece in the fire. No fully understanding how the heat works, he grabbed the meat out of it. This caused him great pain. After the pain passed, he noticed the meat was different. He decided to again, bite into the meat. The taste was different; it was much tastier than before. They began to put almost all of their meat in the heated light.

Town advancement:

Almost all the houses had a mixture of stone and stick. Thor began to make his house more organized. Instead of just having a single box shaped room, he added a smaller room to hold his Crowneck and Chowneck. This was the first form of closet. The other soon followed in Thor’s footsteps. Three more houses were built for the new men and women.
After the organization, men constructed a wall around their town on top of the mountain. The only way up the mountain was through the wall constructed. This was to help keep the Crowneck from eating their Chowneck.

Economy:
Trade stayed the same since last post.

Organization:

At the beginning, everything was done in the meeting area in the center of all the huts. This includes eating, bathing, sleeping, and mating. After some time, the beings decided to migrate to their houses and mate, bath, and sleep instead of all together. Some decided to go into the other’s hut instead of theirs. Thor decided to take one woman to his hut almost every night. She decided to constantly do mating, eating, and bathing only in his presence. Soon the others decided to follow. They began to move in and out of their huts. Some huts were emptied and then taken down. Thor declared this to be a common among their town. Every man should have at least one woman by his side at all times. Women tended to the cooking and cleaning of the houses while the men constructed and hunted.

Religion:

The town began to worship the RelAsgard. They thought it very important and only one person was allowed to visit at a time. Soon they constructed walls of stone and sticks around it so that only one person could be in it at a time. Thor was given priority over anyone else in the town. He was finally named their leader. He began to look at the drawings in the below room of the RelAsgard. Some seemed like pictures of many things around them, while others looked nothing like it. He still did not understand this. He finally decided to go exploring.

Communication:

Communication continued to stay very similar to before, but they added new sounds to the newly understood stone:

Sounds like it'll add an entire new element to the game :P

Once again, do it. You can skip like, 20 years for all I care.

Ok. In the end I'll probably list year, population, and all the other info as "unknown" as it fluctuates and probably makes no sense anyway. In the end, the goblins will ALWAYS outnumber their enemy, but their technology and intelligence will be limited. Also, Goblins cannot negotiate, and only work with other creatures they can control, or ones that can control them.

I wouldn't suggest trying THAT though.....

AdrianRedd wrote:So yeah, I don't have enough free time to keep up on this too well.

Sounds great. That means when you do post you have to account for ALOTof advances though :O

GOBLIN ATTACK
Create-A-Civ (To be, or not to be, that is the question . . .) - Page 5 30s8z6d

Civilization name: The Redd Moon Goblin Tribe
Population: Unknown
City and Names: Unknown
Allies: None
Year: Unknown

The Goblins have made little progress over the years. Some of the new civilizations have caused trouble for them, and some have even whittled down the Goblin numbers.

Or so they thought.

Still bearing crude stone tools and speaking a harsh, near unintelligible language, the Goblins do not have organization. Their "society" is violent, wicked, and brutal. Their numbers grow, but soon they are just as quick to quarrel amongst themselves as they are to attack an enemy. Might makes right, and those goblins that live long enough grow bigger. The bigger ones start pushing the smaller ones around. The big goblins start fighting over scraps and tools. Some of them die. After several years of skirmishes, bashin's and killin's, only one remains.

A vile creature by the name of Skad stands at the top. By trial of blood, Skad is the biggest goblin, and the most cunning. His red eyes gleam with primal intelligence, his long teeth drip with malice. As the biggest, he claims the best bits: A suit of iron armor cobbled together from the bodies of human, elven, and wolf-man scouts. He wields a big iron axe, and has adorned his crude outfit with teeth, spikes, and ghastly decorations painted in blood.

Skad, taking control of the goblins, starts bossing them around. With brutal lashin's, several killin's, and a lot of yellin', Skad forces the goblins to stop fightin' and start workin'. And they do work. Very, very hard. It's amazing what a lot of little hands can do when they suddenly have purpose.

The tunnels expanded, their camps grew in size in the shadow of the mountain near the Cliffs of Death. Rickety bridges span the gaps between ravines, more tunnels are dug, and after several years under Skad's leadership, the Redd Moon Goblin Tribe has the makings of a massive city. The worst part: most of the city is underground, and it extends for miles and miles......

The Underground is no longer safe.

Which is very unfortunate for those creatures that have dug too deep, and so soon. It wasn't long before the tunnels of the Goblins began breaking into those of other civilizations, particularly one that was camped far too close.

It was with great terror that the Wolf-men awoke to the sound of a horrible sound. Skad'Gnosh, claiming the title of Great Gnosh, sounded his large ivory horn. Suddenly, from the mines of the wolf-men, Goblins boiled from the ground like a plague. They carried hammers, spears, axes, and daggers made of bone and rocks. The bigger goblins carried iron, and some wore iron or leather armor. Their beady red eyes glowed in the dark, contrasting with the glowing yellow eyes of the Wolf Men. While the Wolf Men were bigger, and stronger, the Goblins had surprise and numbers. And, they had Skad'Gnosh.

Skad lumbered onto the battlefield, screaming at the top of his lungs. He used his axe to cut into huts, grabbing what he thought looked nice and killing what looked alive. Roaring, he cried "Grab the shiny things! Kill the hairy things!!" His strategy caught on, and soon, all the goblins were looting and killing with abandon.

The wolf-men fought back. They howled battle cries. Many of those that were on watch were cut down or swarmed, but some were far enough away from the mines that they were able to fight back. Women and cubs scattered, some of the mothers grabbing their weapons and fighting to give their children a chance to escape into the Woodlands where they would be safe.

Skad'Gnosh faced off with a huge, brutal wolf-man. He was the biggest wolf, so Skad assumed he was the leader. Skad didn't like things bigger than him. He charged forward, waving his axe like mad. The wolf-lord drew a sword, and snarled through his teeth. Both leaders clashed hard in the middle of the village in the shadow of the Tower. The Wolf-lord stood in Skad's way, hoping to keep him away from the sacred place. But Skad would have none of that. Seeing himself outmatched, Skad ran back, and screamed at his goblins, "KILL IT! KILL THE BIG NASTY!!!"

Soon the wolf-lord was waste deep in teeth and claws. He swung his sword mightily, cutting down many of the green monsters. Some of the cleverer ones climbed the tower, and lept down onto the wolf-lord's shoulders. He pulled them off and threw them into the mob, but they kept coming, and soon the wolf-lord was wounded in many places. With an anguished howl he thrashed his way through the mass of goblins, slaying many of them before making his escape with the others.

Skad'Gnosh ordered his goblins into the tower to grab what they could. He also ordered them to get some of the "Bright hot stuff" that the wolves were using. It could come in handy.

Suddenly, many howls came from the forest. So loud and so great were they that it sounded like a single great wolf god was howling in anger. The goblins turned, and found themselves being charged by the entire wolf-man village, led by the wolf-lord himself. And this time they were on the offensive, carrying swords and slings and wearing armor that they had kept in the forest.

Skad'Gnosh quickly sounded his horn three times. The goblins that remembered what that meant started to run back into the caves with their loot. Those that forgot were killed. Skad stood and watched the stragglers get slaughtered. Then, grabbing a torch from a passing goblin, he threw it into the tower. He grinned evilly as he saw the flames begin to spread, adding it's light to the other fires in the village.

A stone pounded into his armor, leaving a deep dent. He grunted in pain. Skad'Gnosh retreated after his tribe, another stone whistling past his head. As he left he sounded his horn again, a sickly screech that reverberated in the mouth of the cave with a terrible sound.

A sound of victory.

RAID RESULTS:

Death Toll:
250 Goblins dead. Losses will be recuperated over time.

Loot:
Many iron weapons, tools and other things made of metal..
Some gold from the tower.

Advancement:
The Goblins now have fire.
The Goblins have a leader.

Broskillet you have to at least to have a very rough estimate of goblin numbers. Say 250 to 1000.

Civilization name: Sevis
Population: 101 (100 hundred people!)
50 Males
51 Females
City and names: Unoa, Bethis, Northern Outpost
Allies(if any):
Year: 60
Additional Info:

New Advances:
We have a slight increase in the population of magic users. They currently only account for five percent of the population.

The first metal armor was made using small plates of iron linked together. It is mostly better than leather. We have begun digging in the earth for it and have been rewarded with minor veins.

Resources:
After the magic users felt the animal's minds, they stopped eating meat altogether. They converted some to follow their beliefs, and meat consumption has gone down eleven percent. This has reduced strain on the meat farmers and allows them to focus on plants. Oxen tied to plows has made life much easier for the farmers.

EDIT: After the goblin attack we donated some for aid. Not significant as we have much stock piled.

Language and Culture: Our language is sophisticated enough to represent almost anything, but the written word is more primitive. We are starting to use slashes, lines, and dots. Like /'.||\

Military: 31 people, and with the advent of metal armor, swordsmen have small plates of iron embedded in their chest piece, shin guards, and shoulder pads. Archers have iron neckguards and studded leather.

Swords are composite iron and obsidian, while arrows have remained the same.

EDIT: Nine more have joined because of the goblin attack. Half are going to help out.

Outside world:
All is well with the Wolf Kin. We have a basic understanding of their language and culture. Our interpreters have been in their minds long enough to speak accented Wolf Kin, however many amused howls it brings.

EDIT: After the goblin attack our people in Wolf territory helped rebuild their city which was savagely attacked by the goblins. We are distributing food and supplies. We also sent volunteers to go help, our people are outraged at the goblins. A few elite archers were sent to find the goblin camp, but we found they are too far underground.

We received a scout from a nearby civilization, and our telepathic interpeter conveys that we are not hostile and open for trade and diplomacy. We are particularly interested in those four legged creatures.

Goblins are a kill on sight priority.

My rough estimate was somewhere in the realm of 500 at this attack. Don't worry, I always have an idea for how large my army is, I've got it all written down. It's not like you can scout out the goblins enough to guess their numbers anyway. Also, the numbers will change very drastically depending on how long my absences are.
