Plans for a new spawn area
Me and Adrian are designing a new spawn point.
Here are my blueprints (Adrian's coming soon)

Minimum Costs
1548 Walls (Walls Seven blocks high, plus two blocks for battlements) (Smoothstone or cobblestone)
273 Spawn Room (Nine by Nine total room, Spawn point indicated by red dot)
192 Road (Either Planks, Dirt, or Cobblestone, indicated by brown lines)
336 Perimeter for building spaces (Twelve lots measuring six by ten, closest buildings to spawn are prioritized for Wizard buildings i.e Market Place)
Fits into 51 by 51 Area 2601 Sq Cubes Minus outside Perimeter area
Total Cubes used in construction: 2349

I dont see how we'd get Bedrock in without INVedit?
It's not hard to gain that materials. Divide it by 64, and you'll soon find it's only about 25-30 stacks. Which with a Chest full of Stone tools or some diamond is easily achievable.
We just need a Mine that will look alright and un-obvious on the outside.

I disagree with the Bedrock. Let's use smoothstone. We can gather planks and logs easily enough for fuel. It will look a lot better than either material besides.

Going to make a version with graph paper. This image is NOT to scale. Also there's some sketches of other buildings as well as the tower.
I'll take building lots into consideration, although that always results in ugly boxes.....
EDIT: BTW, new wireless scanner is OSSUM!!!!!! I love getting new hardware!

I really didn't like the idea of an industrial style jail. I wanted something that would provide people with something they wanted, which was public humiliation. The cell is on the second floor instead of the first floor, and is open to the street. The people walking by can look up and laugh at the hapless prisoner. LoLoLoLOloLOL. Of course these are just sketches, I can always design something else, but I wanted to build primarily with planks, logs, half stone, glass, smooth stone, and fences. I really don't want to use cobble at all, since it's overused anyway. The only place I'll use cobble is for the streets.
It's not that it LOOKS like a jail, but that it FUNCTIONS like a jail. I don't see any reason to make an ugly building just because our real life prisons are ugly.

What if you combine them, use Adrians plans and create a to scale blue-print. Adjust accordingly and you shall see what we end up with.

YAY!!! I figured out how to make a grid in photoshop! Now to draw the ENTIRE town....

Might be cool, but how will you account for future factions and so on? And what will become of old/dead factions' 'embassies' once they inevitably fall, as seen with TDE?

They will simply be destroyed and replaced, or modified. The city is big enough to make room for new things, and the walls can always be expanded if we need to, though that would take a lot of work. Definitely shouldn't use bedrock then
At this point I think the server is only big enough for 3 or 4 factions. The pirates have their embassy in the ship, and there's 2 more embassies planned as well on either side of the tower. Since kingdoms rise and fall fairly quickly, I think having room for 4 or so embassies will be more than enough. The rest of the space will be taken up by houses, the market, the Inn, and the jail.
Keep posting ideas and comments! The feedback will make sure we're on the right track.

We won't have to unprotect it for thievery to occur, don't worry The market will be big enough and busy enough to let thieves have their way with merchant's goods. However, if they're caught by the town Guard or the Wizards they'll be thrown in jail! So you best be sneaky!

Protection I meant by you cant build. that way people cant grief the town.

Or maybe a firing range, or being burned at the stake. The options are endless.

The tower is 20 blocks wide at the base, which is more than enough for a HUGE main hall at the bottom for guests. Everything above that is Wizards Only. Soto's room will be at the very top of course. The place will be constructed entirely out of Snow on the outside. On the inside? Well, now that I have dyes to work with I can go crazy!!! Planning the entire tower is going to be a big task too.
As for protection and whatnot, you'll need to purchase a build permit to build stuff in the city. Otherwise I think we'll let people open and close doors and chests, but that's it. Think Oblivion. If a person is too careless not to lock their door and chest, then a thief can get away with it. Of course, if a member of the Town steals, then they will lose their build permit.

Quick question, does anyone know what the standard height is from sea-level to sky? Knowing that will definitely help me plan out the tower. Thanks!!

The max height is 128, yet I'm not sure if that is from sea level. I shall continue to look around

Sea level is 64 (bottom of map is typically 0 - bedrock starts at layer 5) top of sky box is 128.
