RULES ABOUT KILLING
When Can You Kill Someone?
This is a free world in which you can do almost anything you wish. However there are certain guidelines to killing someone and almost all completely pertain to GRIEFING.
- You MUST have a legitimate reason to kill someone.
- You must be aware of your goal when killing someone. Enough so that the player killed even knows why you killed them.
- You cannot run around randomly killing people looking for loot.
Not Okay:
Killing a farmer traveling to the market to sell his goods is not a candidate for being killed for loot.
Okay:
A merchant traveling to sell his diamonds is okay to kill however, but you must know that they are carrying valuables. If you kill a player without any valuables you will be punished unless there are reasons behind it that the killed player understands as well.
If a player puts in a dispute for a random killing and the reason you give is something simple like "I saw them walk out of their house,” is not good enough.

How are we supposed to know who is carrying what? At some point all killings are random simply because us plebeians can't look at other people's inventories.

You don't kill unless you know. Follow them and watch them. Jump out and tell them to give you their stuff. Killing someone is a big crime and you need to make sure you will get something out of it.

That's all I wanted to know. The rules are kind of vague in that regard.

Re: RULES ABOUT KILLING
Shouldn't the penalty for killing be directly be taken on by the faction of the player? this way a pirate could be punished for killing another faction member or neutral merchants etc., and vagabonds must be brought to justice by other players in factions. Say a vagabond was pillaging the countryside and looting all merchants in the vicinity of his hideout. The merchants would have to go to a faction and ask for them to kill the vagabond. The vagabond's penalty to raiding and killing everybody would be death and the raiding/destruction of his house as justice for the lootings and killings.

I've been wondering about the order of importance of this rule and the New Life rule. Because technically, if someone kills you and takes your items, you know what they are carrying and where they are. Yet the New Life rule would have you ignore this and let them live. I am just curious whether players are justified in killing in order to get their items back?

No. No no no. And no. Killing is perfectly legal in this game. There is no punishment for killing. There is no revenge killing. Look at The New Life Rule. If there's a war between two kingdoms, then those kingdoms would be constantly attacking each other. If someone is breaking the rules, that's up for the admins and moderators to deal with, not the kingdoms. There will be NO revenge killings! There will be NO destruction of property! (Griefing) End of story!

New Life Rule takes priority. However, if you happen to see that player later, and you know for a fact that he's carrying your goods, then take him out. If he's dumb enough to remain at your base for as long as it takes for you to get back and to see a stranger in your house, kill him. The New Life Rule says that you must treat the killer as if he never killed you. But if you find a legitimate excuse to kill him, like say he's trespassing on your territory, rifling through your things, or carrying a significant amount of loot, then kill him fairly and legitimately. Use your imagination, there's plenty of ways to enjoy the game within the context of the New Life Rule.

I think you shouldn't be allowed to set people on fire, since you die very fast, plus your loot burns up anyways...especially in someones house...where it is made out of some wood
