What should the gold base price be? (Coins)
What should the gold base price be?
So I've decided to only make a base price for one item - gold. Once we have that price, people can price other items accordingly. So vote on what you think the base price for gold should be!

I think gold should cost about 80 or so coins. This would leave plenty of room for less popular items to have a cost over 1 coin and also give meaning to how much a person should work and for how much.

100's a nice number, it offers a lot of variation of prices and is used by a lot of real life currencies, the US $ for instance (100 cents to a dollar -> 100 coins to a piece of gold). I'd say give an exchange rate of 100, but have any currency already owned adjusted to this large jump from the 10 coins->gold exchange rate so the inflation doesn't kill the value of coins already in place.

Re: What should the gold base price be?
I actually agree with Transfatninja. He puts it very well, and it makes sense. I'll be changing my vote to 100, on the condition that all money be multiplied by 10 when the base is altered ( To set all right with the economy and not piss off rich people such as darwin )
Edit: >mfw you can't change your vote
Just take 1 vote off of the 80 and put it to 100 please.

Re: What should the gold base price be?
to bad we could have a decimal number so 1 gold = 1 (1.00), but was actually 100, etc...
So we'd have gold and silver coins lol.
But I agree, 100 seems the most logical number - plus it gets you excited when you see gold, even on SMP - than you realize soon after it's worthless. xD

Re: What should the gold base price be?
I think gold should be the standard for all other items value. eg: 1 gold = 10 iron 30 cobble and so on.

I was wondering this also.
Welcome back Shig's!
Re: What should the gold base price be?
I would also like to have gold worth more but at the same time I think there would just be too much money in the economy. Also for those who already have money I throne it should be made equal to the system.

Seems to be a pretty decisive vote for 100.
If it changes to 100 everybody's current money should be multiplied by 10 so it's fair.

Re: What should the gold base price be?
I think 10 should be there, this poll doesn't even give people the option for a lower, but still even number.

Re: What should the gold base price be?
I didnt include those because if gold were to be 10, iron, coal, cobblestone, and alot others, would be SO UNDERPRICED. I don't see why people have a problem with a little more money in the system.ivanelk wrote:I think 10 should be there, this poll doesn't even give people the option for a lower, but still even number.

Re: What should the gold base price be?
As I said in my post, 10 would be good if you could pay in decimals or secondary money.
Problem with having gold at 10 is that you couldn't sell any items worth less than a 1gold per wood/smooth stone.
Fair enough for having smaller numbers, but larger numbers means we can have variety and we can still sell our bread for about 10.
Just means the economy has larger numbers yet everything would still be not worth that much, 100 = 1 gold bar, so 100 = nothing.

Re: What should the gold base price be?
It cant be underpriced...if gold is 10 and iron is say 8, thats not "underpiced", thats just changing the scale....im not sure if ur understaind all this...
but i tihnk people need to get over it, the money here isnt the same as rl, if gold in rl is 1,000 but here it is 10, if everything goes down to scale, its not underpriced.
..is anybody getting this

The amount wouldn't matter if we could have a decimal system, but we can't. If gold is 100, then iron can be something like 76, which is much more diverse. If gold was 10, then iron could only be a single digit number, with no added value.
Also, many items would be stuck at the lowest possible exchange amount, 1. Things like Glass, wood, fences, and other items would all cost the same if the base was only 10. At 100 you can have diversifying prices that can reflect the more accurate value of the item.

Well it depends if everyone starts out with an amount it would have to be proportionate also you can always sell stacks.

You won't need decimals because noone sells ONE glass, they'll probably sell in bulk were you can pay in a round number. Say 64 glass for 5 coins instead of 1 glass for 0.5 coins. So, 100 would just be unnecessary because noone sells 1 glass and 100 makes hugeass numbers that noones wants to deal with.

Re: What should the gold base price be?
I'd rather wait to see what other items would cost... I don't trade that often so this is of little importance to me. However, I don't know how much 100 coins is, is it a lot, or is it a small amount? 100 coins=1 dollar? That would be very inexpensive, which is why I want to know what others cost to get a feel of how much money 100 coins are.

100 coins is however much people are willing to sell for it. It is just easier to have high numbers as there is more presision when it comes to buying low valued items.

Yar. I agree with this point.
However since we mainly sell stuff in multiples of four (64, 32,) maybe our denomination should be as well.
