Should we keep our current map?
Should we keep our current map?
So after two days of exploring the temp. map, I found that it was WAY more intersting then our current one. Its spotted with lakes, forests, and mountians. Its just awesome. Before you say "But Igor! My stuff! I've heard MCedit is working again, and we could possibly get it saved. So, what do you guys think? Go back to the old map, or keep this one?

100% in favor!
This map is just beautiful! Gorgeous grasslands, magnificant mountains, lush lakes, creepy caverns. I can go on and on.
Everytime I go to explore the map, the more amazed I become at the terrain! It was an unlimited amount of new surprises and resources.

Maybe not this map in particular, but I'm up for a clean start. Ooh! Idea! If we used a specific seed to generate this map, we could enter it again!

I like some of the weird geometry errors on the new map, but I'm not sure whether we should move.

We should definitely move, the old map was getting dull.

not again...grrr...but really i don't care. I think though that when we do a map reset we do an everything reset and that enclude buildings and inventory's.

Re: Should we keep our current map?
Honestly, I think we should generate a new map once societies is ready (and I mean READY; We should probably even mess with it on the current map for awhile to make sure there are no bugs or exploits). We'll Keep this map as a permanent temporary map for when things need to be fixed/updated, but generate a new land using a seed people could vote for in the forums (Sotonia, TheKingdoms, etc.). If it's possible, port the spawn town over, as well as anything else requested.
Though now that I think about it, spawn town seemed like a ghost town a lot of the time. It's amazing to look at, but nobody really wanted to stay there. Maybe we should build something more compact, but still grandiose, Like a spawn temple? Just a thought.

Re: Should we keep our current map?
I don't think we should keep this map. Everyone went into it with the idea that it was temporary. As a result, all the work done in this map has been done with the idea that nothing will be saved.
If we had gone into it with the idea that everything would be permanent, things would be different; further, many people have an understanding that we will return to the old map, and would be beyond incensed if we did not.

Re: Should we keep our current map?
Personally I don't think we should have a new map at all. What was wrong with the one we were just using? And furthermore, why can't we have building transfers? Everybody on the server put in immense amounts of time into their respective buildings, or so I would imagine. The Brotherhood had a very complex base, full of redstone, trap doors, hidden doors, and so on. I'd like to think everyone else worked at least as hard on theirs, as we did on ours.
I'd really hate to see all that work go to waste.

Re: Should we keep our current map?
I didn't see much wrong with the latter 2.0 map, was fun, had some nice kingdoms in it, etc... 3.0 was pretty small, but we didn't get much more than 3 weeks and it is all scrapped. Not too much reassurance for 4.0 actually we shouldn't really have a 4.0. If we went back to the latter 2.0 map it would be kinda fun having some kingdoms as like ruins like igors first base and the dawn empire. I really think it is silly that we need to reset from 3.0 at this point I understand all the kingdoms are broken up but if you want to be rp would it not be fun having a look at all the now dead kingdoms. Maybe a vagabond gets in the pirates base and claims it. Really would add a new aspect. But that reason is likely not going to change many people's minds at this point. We have a new plug in so I suppose the server should be reset.Habit wrote:this is "the kingdoms", the map is older than 2 weeks, sure we need a new one

I think we should have works from 2.0 and 3.0 ported over. I really, really like the idea of ruins you can explore and perhaps repair. I actually find a lot of fun in repairing abandoned houses. Just anything that is unfamiliar will be cool to see.

Re: Should we keep our current map?
Ruins would be cooler if the map was much bigger and they were spread out more. But having tons of ruins all within 500 spawn is ugly.

We could definitely do this, and maybe convert some of the underground structures into dungeons... I'd be okay with the Brotherhood's base from 3.0 becoming a dungeon, but I'd just hate to see it just go un-used.
In fact, it has the perfect setup to become a dungeon and tons of redstone wiring already built into it, so it would be easy to convert into one. And considering the enormous staircase entrance it had at one point, it could easily be turned into a tourist attraction or something.
