Yeah, I like it too. It has some great ideas. I'll probably change the old Guild Hall (since it's no longer necessary...) into a trading hub. I think I'll either let Darwin or Spongi be in charge of marketing. Hopefully we can get a bit of an economy going.

We plan on letting people actually live in the city. They'll be able to rent their own houses. We'll have to assign someone as landlord of course. No one will be able to build in the city except for the Wizards and perhaps a couple more people that are important to running the Town. If you want a safe private chest, have the Banker put it in the bank for you.

When Spawn Town nears completion I'll be making a list of jobs that need to be filled to keep it running. You'll be able to post applications for positions you want to have.

Say, are there any mods out there for NPCs? It would be awesome to have a Guard NPC that attacks people who are attacking people in their range Smile

Always wanted a shopper NPC.

I believe there was a form of RPG mod that would allow you to do that. Tho I'm not sure if it works for Beta. Nor can I remember what it was called -.-

I have the solution for our ugly mining project for the resources:

Our moat. Makes perfect sense for a huge gaping hole.

And your grid is impossible to count by the way.

The main tower is exactly 20 wide. You can count the squares by 4x4 chunks. You're perfectly capable of using the plans I made to perfection.

We really do not need a moat, but if people feel that it's such a necessity then I'm sure I can work it in somehow. But it's low priority compared to the other things we have to do.

Why not use a moat to cover up the fact we will probably mine over 9000 blocks? I mean, do you want a massive spartan well ?

They may be perfectly to scale but I can't count them so that means I can't calculate an estimation of total resources. :\

If you have fairly detailed plans, you could build the spawn using spawned blocks. If you'd rather not, just reload the chunks that were mined out.

Strip mining is to mining as rape is to sex. Technically, it is, but it's a terrible way to do it. A really fucking terrible way to do it.

If theres a moat put water in it this time.

mine one block down, fill it with inf water.

Mine 3 blocks down next to the moat, go in by 2 and mine around on the inside. than when the moat is done you can strip the top layer and the water should flow down and keep it's infinitiness.

Not sure if it would work but big hole moats with emptiness really isn't a good look.

I've been watching those videos of server's spawn towns that you guys posted. I think that most of them were only so successful because they are the only stable and safe spot on the entire server. The Chaos one for example said everywhere but the spawn town was anarchy. Being the only safe spot where things are a constant is what probably draws so many people to the spawn town and makes it a success.
I am thinking with Soto's new game mechanic where everyone will have a Towny area of land to build a "safe" house will diminish the effectiveness of the spawn town. No need for banks, or a place to stay the night for fear of bandits getting in when you can just block your doors. Most people will probably stay in their houses or their faction territory, especially with large self-sustainable factions.
However, if Iconomy doesn't return with its sign shops then i don't think the economy will be too badly effected. heading to market with your safely grown wheat should be nice, and hopefully adventurous by dodging bandits in-betwixt.

They will have to go to spawn to sell stuff. Money is a real incentive for some folks Smile
And some people don't like living out alone. As a vagabond it was pretty lonely for me until I started the Merc Guild.

Being alone wasn't so bad, it was living in fear that someone would actually find your little base.

I would've bought/rent a house and used the protection land for farming. Just hope the spawn's not an empty town...

I agree. I'd be paranoid as hell someone would decide to use a transparent texture pack and find my (admittedly, poorly-placed) base.

Nowadays, my real base is more than 3000 blocks from spawn, and I occasionally make the pilgrimage back to my old base to see what other people have done to it. Very Happy They never did find my stash. In fact, I left some stuff in the chest in my stash, and it's still there. Sometimes I place additional traps in it just for kicks.

With my real base, that fear is gone because a) it's so far away, b) it's protected, and c) no one would find my stash anyway.

And also this map isn't permanent. That takes a big load off.

Lazuli blocks? Or the blue cloth? Some texpacks make cloth look like quilt material or some sort of bedspread, which looks unnatural as a construction material.
