Fire Spread
Right now it seems as though nothing will burn. Nothing worth burning, at least. This needs to change.
Letting wood planks burn could lead to some ugly messes and logs will never poof when burning, but leaves have to burn. It is the only viable way to combat monster tree blobs. Nothing else comes to mind as a "need to burn" material.
Thoughts?

Re: Fire Spread
That's kinda just asking for epic forest fires... Leaf decay is functioning, so I don't imagine leaves will be an issue anymore. If you have a chunk still alive, just trim them off the ground and adjacent leaves and they'll decay normally.

Re: Fire Spread
You don't seem to understand what I mean by giant tree mobs. It is not as simple as "take out all of the logs" because the logs are spread randomly throughout this 30x15x20 blob of leaves. Burning the leaves in these blobs would leave a bare, log skeleton which can then be taken down.
I would happily trip small, normal trees. These are not small or normal trees.
Forest fires are griefing just like anything else. If Logs don't burn, the fire would go out with the leaves. You would end up with naked skeletons. While those aren't pretty, they are much easier to deal with than burning skeletons.
By your logic, we shouldn't allow picks because someone could grief through a cobble / stone structure. We shouldn't allow axes because someone could grief through a wooden structure.
I'm not asking for free-fire, just a simple method of get rid of the leaves on giant trees.

Yes, but some douche will no doubt abuse this and set fire to the entire forest around spawn.
You know its true.

Re: Fire Spread
Isn't a whitelist suppose to stop that?
If it is really that big of a concern, only give fire-powers to veteran members. When someone has been on the server, actively, for more than a week or two, it's a fairly safe bet that they won't intentionally cause forest fires.

Re: Fire Spread
Keep in mind that I only want leaves to burn. Once the leaves are gone, so is the fire. The main problem with forest fires is the glitch of forever burning logs.
Logs and planks should stay impervious to fire. Way too much griefing opportunities.

Meh. I think it's a bad idea. You can clear leaves fast enough with a sword, anyway.

Again, you underestimate the size of this tree mass. Burning leaves is infinitely easier with almost no draw backs.

Flaming death of you and any mobs in your now burning forest. A minor drawback.Hazzy wrote:Again, you underestimate the size of this tree mass. Burning leaves is infinitely easier with almost no draw backs.

If you die to leaves that burn for 15 seconds, you deserve it.

ive had to deal with lots of trees like that, it just takes a little longer, but you get a lot of wood from it. so i say no to fire.

Re: Fire Spread
First rule of the game: Don't be lazy. Laziness leads to irrational decisions, and those decisions lead to ugliness, vulnerabilities, and death. Just do things the hard way, and get over yourself. The Redd's are digging a massive hole in the side of a mountain. It's been two days and it's still not done, but it looks ossum so far. When it is done we'll have the coolest base in the entire Kingdoms. Again. But if we were lazy we would just start building huts willy nilly all over the place, and it would be ugly and impossible to defend. Instead, we're doing things the hard way, and while it takes a long time, patience will soon win out. So yeah, cut it out with the fire ya lazy oaf. Push up your sleeves and get doin' some hard work. In the end you'll be glad ye did.

Why? Leaves give you apples if you haven't noticed, and golden apples are now relatively easy to create. Also, what is wrong with trees in the first place?

We will change this in the new update. You can set stuff on fire, it just wont spread.
