Hey all I was just wondering if a new faction system may be a good idea.

I was thinking that you could have 2 types of factions within the game; Major Factions and Minor Factions

Major factions would be those which have the highest membership (don't know what a min member limit could be) and therefor thier leaders get the standard powers that the leaders of pirates, dawn and igor have.

Minor Factions would be just like major factions but without the ability to use towny or any protection system. This means we get a variety of settlements like in 1.0 but without the problem of too much protected land.

Both types of factions would have their own sub chats to allow for easy communication

Adding more factions would not only improve the co-operation on the server (which I think should be encouraged) but also strengthen the economy and make diplomatic relations more interesting because there are many possible allies and enemies instead of just 3 so you have think carefuly about how you will go about things Razz . This new system will in my opinion allow those lead by good leaders to prosper more and offer more choice to players as to which path they want to chose.

That what I need. I only just came up with the idea while playing Empire total war (good game) so i m leaving the refining up to the guys who know best

I like the idea. It reminds me a lot of Civ 5's City-State system, so perhaps the major factions could claim protection of the minor ones?

I like this. For a while I have wanted to be part of a group, without haveing protection on because that seems like a cheap tactic that can't be broken through. Personally I would have no protection whatsoever, but I know that probably wont happen.

I like this because it allows groups to form and be able to communicate easier with each other. Currently any small vagabond groups have to use something outside of Minecraft in order to communicate in any effective way.

It ll also give these groups a better sense of identity because they will become official factions. It ll help your groups prosper as well cos more would know about them

what you guys think the minimum membership should be to become a major faction?...It would have to be relatively big so we would only have a few

I'd say minimally 15-20 people to start a major kingdom. Some may say this is high, but it should be, major kingdoms shouldn't be something you can setup almost overnight, it should take time, teamwork and organization in order to go from minor to major.

My visualisation of this is to have minor factions as underground mostly because they dont have enough people to guard their chests, but a couple of buildings above ground. Major factions should be above ground, with at least 20 people altogether so they can properly guard chests at all times. They should also not have protection.

I think it should be up to each faction what building style they have so that we get a wide variety in architecture styles and the server is a little more interesting. Some will be above, some will be below.

P.s I doubt protection will come off and tbh it is one of the percs of becoming a major faction and say if a major factions membership would fall to low it could lose its extra abilities.
