Ok since I've been helping people on Teamspeak with this I guess I'll post something for everyone. There is going to be two things in this guide, 1) Avoiding Auto Updates with Old Launcher and 2) Using a more stable version of Minecraft (The Minecraft.jar Launcher, which uses less memory).

Old Launchers:
Minecraft.exe
http://www.mediafire.com/file/vwcd7bdq7a78q41/Minecraft.exe

Minecraft.jar
http://www.mediafire.com/file/hhn8w531tdak0iz/Minecraft%20%282%29.jar

The biggest part of avoiding the update is having the correct version file in your /bin folder. That file is what tells Minecraft that you need/do not need to update. If you have the version file from 1.3, the launcher will assume that you do not have to update and let you continue on.

If you don't have a 1.3 version file, here is mine.

Simply put that into your /bin folder and the launcher will think you are fine.

Now we get into the more complex shit, which is using the Minecraft.jar launcher. Why would you want this? Well I can tell you personally the only time I crash using this launcher is due to having a problematic mod installed. I never have black screens or crashes caused by memory leaks. It also uses less RAM and system resource.

First you need the most recent Java JDK, which is currently JDK 7. Get the JDK for your computer here: http://download.java.net/jdk7/

For most of you it will be the very first Windows download. If you are using 64-bit windows, go down a section and download the first one. Install that and DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING. Let the installer use the defaults, it figures out where your computer is keeping its Java files and installs there.

Now run the Minecraft.jar provided above and bask in the glory of not having to deal with a crash ridden .exe. See that wasn't as complex as I made it out to be.
